Last week at the New York auto show, Ram wowed with a new goal post for the electric truck: a targeted range of 500 miles for its 2025 Ram 1500 REV.
That range figure, unveiled by Ram Brand CEO Mike Koval Jr., could make the 1500 REV king of the EV hill in what matters most to many buyers, and second only to the 516-mile Lucid Air sedan. But to get there, this muscle truck requires a battery pack that’s more than twice the capacity of Lucid, which is 229 kwh.
While the Ram 1500 REV has an evolutionary design and does not carry on the radical looks and breakthrough packaging of the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV concept, its completely new front end design makes the EV easily recognizable compared to the petrol Ram. The electric truck also features a single pedal drive mode, a front motor unit that can be removed when not needed for increased efficiency, and underbody aerodynamic steps to help achieve a claimed 0.34 drag coefficient.
With 654 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque, a 0-60 mph time in 4.4 seconds, wading depths of up to 24 inches, towing capability of up to 14,000 pounds, and a maximum payload of 2,700 pounds, the 1500 REV is as impressed as versus a petrol truck in most if not all other sizes. These include outputs of up to 7.2 kw from the power panel and 3.6 kw from the frunk outlets, and are ready for two-way charging for home systems and even vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability in the future.
With the production basics of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV out of the curtain, Green Car Reports sat down with Koval and asked about the production possibilities of a 20-foot wooden pass-through, robotic charging, and more. It gets interesting.

What is the Ram 1500 REV XR range?
To tease the idea that more is to come for those who plan to tow with their trucks, the brand notes that a version of the Ram 1500 REV XR—an extended-range EV—will offer “class-shattering range.”
While it’s safe to assume the XR will offer more range than the 500-mile REV, as Koval suggested earlier this year, he’s not going to answer this one—not even quite yet. “I’ll be sharing more about the actual technology — it’s proprietary technology — at the XR reveal later this year,” he said. “But the devil will go over the details, that’s all I can tell you today.”
It’s still a mystery what technical specs Ram chose for the XR, a choice that needed to match battery size, engine output, fuel tank size, and more, all with the crane’s real-world prowess in mind.
Ram also, however, confirmed a potential sweet spot for many electric truck enthusiasts: a 168-kwh single-layer package with a target range of up to 350 miles.
Ram confirmed that the XR will primarily be an EV with a charging port, so it’s natural to expect some of the same charging attributes. But Koval, echoing what Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said earlier in the year, says this isn’t a plug-in hybrid.

When asked about whether Ram would actually offer an outright base version of the 350-mile truck for personal and fleet use—the question hinted at Ford’s bait-and-switch on F-150 Lightning pricing and GM’s staggered and delayed launch of the electric truck— Koval seemed ready to pounce with energy.
“Absolutely, yes I’m bullish, I think we can do both,” he said. “I think there are some reasons that are very practical in fleets and small businesses, not just in vans, but in full-size pickup trucks as well.”
“We will have a version of the Tradesman, which is a work fleet truck, a commercially oriented trim level, with a 168-kwh battery pack that can get you 350 miles,” he added.
Furthermore, Ram says that the 1500 REV will be offered in five different trims: Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, and Limited, plus a new Tungsten trim. Feature highlights include a head-up display, Klipsch Reference Premiere audio, a large 14.5-inch center touchscreen, and a 10.3-inch touchscreen for passengers.

How about the mobile wireless charging robot that was teased with the CES reveal of the Ram Revolution concept?
It’s been revealed that the unit isn’t just stunts. As Green Car Reports reported in January, the robot developed by EFI Automotive over five years was pioneered by Stellantis and incorporates AI.
“If you put the puzzle pieces together, it’s about eliminating friction,” explains Koval. “There are so many, and change is hard… It was an innovative development and very cool for Ram, but yes we are pushing to get it to market as soon as possible.”

Koval at several points in the interview referred to Free2Move’s unique mobility-focused operation Stellantis, which launched for North America in 2017 and initially led with car-sharing and ride-hailing as a means of getting EVs from its former company PSA to the US. Koval says that through Free2Move, Ram wanted to ensure there was a turnkey solution for all the charging a hardware owner might need—thus ensuring a better defined role for the arcane organization in the US.

The smaller Ram 1500 REV pack also charges at 800 volts
One thing last week’s release made clear about the Ram 1500 REV is that it can recover 110 miles in about 10 minutes via the 350 kw CCS connector, thanks to 800 volt charging for either package configuration.
While Ram hasn’t stated it in any release, Koval clarified: The optional 229-kwh package is a two-tier package, the others are single-tier. The 350 mile range truck is independent of two levels.
The smaller fast-charge package could potentially be a big differentiator over GM’s upcoming Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, which charge 400 volts for their standard package and ditch the 800-volt charging for their tier two remote configurations.
Koval says being late in this field helps — not just in range but in charging as well.
“With full knowledge of what competitors have announced, it allows me and Ralph (Gilles) and our engineers to go back and say, ‘Trucks need to be towed, they need to be hauled, and in the future they’re going to need competitive rates in time. charging.’”

The Ram Revolution concept truck offers a pass-through that can potentially allow long items to be stored from trunk to stern—allowing a continuous length of 18 feet for logs and the like, or up to 20 feet with the tailgate lowered.
This is a feature that Koval says is permitted by safety regulations. And, he hinted, it’s one of the few features from the concept that’s actually in production.
“I had the technical solutions to bring most of what you see in concept trucks into production—over time,” says Koval. “We are talking about the lifecycle…features are coming piecemeal over the next few years, that would be fun.”
