The Volkswagen Group is preparing a family of subcompact electric vehicles that will include members of the Volkswagen brand.
VW previewed a potential design for its EV in 2021 with the ID.Life concept, though the automaker abandoned the boxy crossover design of the previous concept in favor of the more traditional hatchback shape it has previewed on the new ID.2all concept.
Unveiled on Wednesday, the ID.2all will debut in production form in 2025 and is one of 10 new or updated EVs to be unveiled by VW in late 2026. Given its small size, the production ID.2all may not reach United States of America
The ID.2all is about 159.5 inches long, which makes it a few inches longer than the subcompact Polo hatchback VW sold overseas. However, VW says the packaging advantage of the electric platform means the vehicle is as large as a compact golf hatch, which measures about 168.8 inches in length. The ID.2all’s maximum storage space is 47 cubic feet, which is nearly the same as the Golf’s 52.7 cubic feet.

There are rumors VW might use the Golf name for the production version, possibly in combination with the ID designation, which could result in the ID.Golf name. Another clue to the Golf connection is the design of the ID. 2all C pillar which VW says is inspired by the design of the original Golf. VW also says the ID.2all introduces the latest evolution of its brand’s design language.
Also new to the ID.2all is a new version of the VW Group’s MEB platform for mainstream EVs, which is currently in the early stages of real-world testing. The new version, dubbed the MEB Entry, is shorter than the regular MEB platform and features a single motor at the front. In the ID.2all, the bike has 222 hp, and the battery of the concept is claimed by VW to be able to go 280 miles on a WLTP test cycle used overseas. Lower numbers will result if you use a more stringent EPA cycle.

Production will be handled at the factory in Spain. The VW Group also plans to build related models from the SEAT and Skoda brands at a factory in Spain, and possibly one from the Cupra performance brand.
VW on the ID.2all disclosure said it was aiming for a starting price below 25,000 euros (about $26,550), even as it offered technology from the top model.

The production ID.2all won’t be the most affordable EV in VW’s lineup. The automaker on Wednesday also announced it was working on an EV that will be priced under 20,000 euros (about $21,250), the oft-rumored ID.1. This model is likely to become a minicar to replace the VW e-Up! hatch.
