Electric cars must be cheaper and supported by better infrastructure.

This is the view of the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA), which held a meeting on March 23 to highlight the problems faced by its members.

Arnold Clark was represented at the event by Audrey Little, research and development executive at the Arnold Clark Innovation Center.

The event will be held at Cox Automotive, Bruntingthorpe on Thursday 23 March and will consist of a presentation followed by a panel discussion featuring subjects selected by VRA members online.

The top five EV topics voted for by VRA members were: better national charging infrastructure; independent industry standard method for checking battery health; reducing energy costs to make charging cheaper, further increasing the range of EVs; and government support to encourage adoption of used electric vehicles.

“This poll provides insight into issues that VRA members believe hinder the acceptance of used EVs and that need to be resolved. In essence, electric cars must be cheaper and supported by better infrastructure. At our meeting we will look in detail at how this can be achieved,” said VRA head Philip Nothard.

“Electric vehicles are a hot topic of conversation within our organization today, especially after the quite dramatic price adjustments we have seen in recent months. Everyone knows that electrification has to happen but everyone can also foresee problems that are hard to solve and solutions that need to be found.
