The Corvette Stingray in its newest avatar is pretty good. In fact, in 2020 at the time of its release, many expected the car to compete with Lamborghinis and McLarens. It has been seen many times in hundreds of videos online, but now, it is said that there are two versions of the powerful new Corvette coming soon. These will be named as ZR-1 and Zora.
Corvette ZR-1 : More Details
For starters, the ZR-1 will start from the base of the Z06. This means many of the features of the Corvette Z06 such as the flatplane crank, V8 engine, wide body and big tires will be carried over to the ZR-1. It will also get ceramic carbon brakes among other things.
But the real difference is in the car’s powertrain and performance. For starters, the ZR-1 is expected to launch as a 2023 model year car. It will come with a 5.5-liter V8 that will produce over 800 HP. The ZR-1 will be a rear-wheel drive car and could possibly get some aero parts like the rear wing, front splitter and get the optional track package as well.
0-60 mph times can be estimated at 2.5 seconds or less. The ZR-1 will be both a racing car and a daily driver on the streets. It will go up against the likes of the McLaren 750S and Porsche 911 Turbo S. Not to mention, the ZR-1 can also undercut the competition significantly.
Corvette Zora: More Details
Named in honor of renowned chief designer Zora Arkus-Duntov, Zora will incorporate new-age technology into the Corvette platform. As Arkus-Duntov did in the 1950s with Corvettes, this time the car could come with electrification and higher performance. In the 1950s, Corvettes made a comeback thanks to features such as disc brakes, fuel injection and independent rear suspension. The car also got a V8 motor.
In terms of powertrain, the Zora could come with a 160 HP electric motor with a combined power output of around 1000 HP. The 0-60 mph time can be a quick 1.9 seconds. That said, a 1/4 mile time under 10 seconds @ 150 mph wouldn’t be too far-fetched either.
Chevrolet will not position Zora as a track monster. Instead it will come with the comfort fit to make it an everyday car that can go fast when needed. But comparing performance, it will share space with the replacement Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari SF9 Stradale.
