The one-off 996 Porsche 911 Club Coupe is up for auction

In 2022, Porsche unveils the 911 Classic Club Coupe, a one-off creation created in collaboration with the Porsche Club of America (PCA) and based on the modest 996-generation 911 Carrera. The car is now being auctioned through Broad Arrow Auctions.

The project, which Porsche says took two-and-a-half years to complete, follows a similar approach to the 997-generation 911 Sport Classic launched in 2009 by applying styling elements from the older model to the newer 911-generation.

The 911 Classic Club Coupe began as a 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera, which PCA member Vu Nguyen spotted at a Virginia dealership. It was shipped to Porsche headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, where the Porsche Classic team stripped it down and rebuilt it with a mix of new original components and modifications, such as the double domed roof and ducktail spoiler like the Sport Classic.

Mechanical components, including brakes, engines, and transmissions are refurbished second-hand—but not necessarily carry-on. The Classic Club Coupe boasts the 375-hp 3.6-liter flat-6 of the 996 GT3, for example. The stock wheels were also replaced with a custom 18-inch forged set with a Fuchs pattern.

To ensure modifications performed as expected, a test car was built and underwent extensive trials at Porsche’s main test facility in Weissach, Germany, and the Nardo high-speed test track in Italy. Aerodynamic elements are also honed in the wind tunnel.

The modified bodywork is painted Sport Gray Metallic, which should draw some comparisons to the gray featured on the 997 Sport Classic. The car also features blue accents in PCA’s signature Club Blue. For the interior, Porsche chose a houndstooth pattern for the seats which are formed from woven leather strands, as well as the Alcantara roof liner and pillars. The dashboard badge reads “911 Classic Club Coupe No. 001/001.”

The 911 Classic Club Coupe was built to commemorate PCA, Porsche’s oldest and largest club, and showcase the capabilities of the Porsche Sonderwunsch personalization program. The program has produced some impressive one-off builds, including the 992 911 GT3 in honor of the 956 Le Mans winner, but here’s a chance to own one without having to commission a build and wait for it to finish.
