Luxury cars and a growing number of entry-level cars are now equipped with backup cameras. Within a few years, backup cameras were mandatory in every new vehicle. For those who have never witnessed the technology first hand, this may seem excessive.
But those who frequently use it praise the application of this technology that helps avoid accidents, makes parking in tight spaces easier, and also improves everyone’s safety. “In the United States a lot of accidents happen on people’s property. An estimated 48 children are injured each week due to such circumstances. Statistics are not available in Canada, but you can be sure that they are significant too. A backup camera can help reduce those statistics significantly,” said a sales representative at Rocking Nissan.
The backup camera is just a small camera which is usually located just above the rear license plate. It then broadcasts an image of what’s going on behind the vehicle directly to the center-dashboard display or in some cases, in the rearview mirror.
Since the camera usually uses a wide-angle lens, you can basically see everything that’s going on behind your vehicle. Better still, some cameras are also equipped with detection systems that indicate, with light and sound effects, the presence of vehicles behind the car or even perpendicularly approaching vehicles.
This (note that cameras are available for sale in specialty stores or supermarkets if your car doesn’t have one) definitely reduces the risk of a crash.
Another feature of rear view cameras is that they make parking much easier, and some cameras include lines, which show the direction, path, and space the vehicle is occupying.
Backup camera, a feature you can’t live without!
