A man landed in hot soup after he rented a 2023 Toyota Supra 3.0 in Turo and used it in a land speed record competition. After the incident, the car owner estimated a loss of US$ 4,000 for the car.

Why was the car used at a land speed event?

According to reports, Gregory Ditch is a teacher at Naperville North High School in Naperville Indiana. Students at the school build a racing truck for the event, but the truck breaks down while being brought to the event. Therefore, at the last minute, Ditch learns that using a rental car can ensure participation in the event.

What do Supra owners say?

The car belongs to Geovanni Morales. Morales had registered the car with Turo and after profiling Ditch he held Ditch responsible. He was car conscious and being a teacher ensured that Morales could safely leave his car.

But, as soon as the car was returned, Morales sensed something was wrong. After going through social media posts, he found photos of cars participating in the event.
According to Turo, the car was rented on their platform but violated the rules. According to the terms and conditions of the application, renting a car for prohibited purposes and racing is not allowed.

Morales said all the tires were worn out while the brakes also needed to be replaced. The Supra was propelled at over 160 mph.
