Nissan on Monday unveiled an electric SUV concept aimed at the China market.
Unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, the Nissan Arizona concept was designed by a Chinese team “to serve as a multifunctional partner for Chinese drivers,” according to a press release from the automaker.

It’s built on top of the global CMF-EV platform, so it might be as simple as a reskin or redesign using the underpinnings of Nissan’s Ariya and e-4orce AWD systems, but previewing a production model for the China market. That platform will be shared with upcoming EVs from partner brands Nissan Infiniti, Renault and Mitsubishi in various markets, with Renault already selling the Megan E-Tech Electric in Europe.
Indeed, most of the distinguishing features of the Arizona concept are related to technology, not mechanics. It has a “virtual personal assistant” called Eporo that can convey information such as the weather forecast “in a human-like manner,” according to Nissan. The concept also features adaptive ambient lighting, with different modes including “recreation, relax, sleep, and surprise.”

Nissan also showed the Max-Out in Shanghai, which is a concept originally revealed (in renders) in 2021 — and may hint at an upcoming electric sports car. When it first demonstrated the Max-Out, Nissan said it would launch 15 EVs by 2030, and have a production-ready solid-state battery by 2028, as part of a plan it’s calling Nissan Ambition 2030.
Nissan recently accelerated its EV plans for Europe and Japan, but not the US. Indeed there are several US-built EVs scheduled for Mississippi in 2025, with the Ariya and Leaf likely to remain the only EVs for these markets until then.
