AutoTrader UK has uploaded a new Youtube video comparing the 2023 Civic Type R to the previous gen model. The last generation FK8 Type R came with a slightly more aggressive exterior while the newer FL5 looks a bit more sober and mature. That said, both cars get massive wings, functional aero bits, and triple tail pipes to differentiate them from the regular Civic.

In the first race, FL5 got off to a better start. It maintained this advantage right down to the checkered flag and beat the old FK8 by a car length. Both cars share similar powertrains, but it’s the upgraded transmission that gives the FL5 the edge on the track. It was able to put its power down more effectively.

Next, the team made a rolling start, which almost negated the advantages of the new Civic. That is, the two cars competed from the starting line to the finish line. The FL5 does produce slightly more power than the FK8, but it’s also the heavier and more expensive of the two.

In 2023, Honda is giving the Civic a facelift. It is said that both cars came with Honda’s 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine. The four-cylinder K20C1 produces 315 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque. The older one makes quite a bit of power at 306 HP and 295 lb-ft. Both cars are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Regarding price, the 2023 Civic Type R costs US$ 44,390. This is a lot of money for a car that basically has more or less the same performance as the previous generation version.
