Mercedes-AMG One has added one more feather to its cap. Hypercar just set a new lap record at Monza. It now holds the record for being the fastest production car to drive past an Italian circuit.
With Maro Engel behind the wheel, the AMG One completed one lap of the race track in 1 minute 43.9 seconds. The car is equipped with all the right technologies to attack high-speed circuits like Monza. As you probably know, the AMG One is a hybrid, which means Engel has to strategically manage battery consumption and use the electric boost.
The heart of the AMG One is the Formula 1-derived 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which, together with the hybrid system, produces 1,049 hp. As well as being muscular, the hypercar is also equipped with an impressive aerodynamics package, which helps the car grip corners and make it as smooth as possible on the straights. The reduced drag function for the rear wing is especially useful on tracks like Monza.
The Mercedes-AMG One set a production car lap record at the Nurburgring in November last year. At that time, it was Engel who brought the car around the 21 km race track in 6 minutes 35.183 seconds.
