Hyderabad, India, February 13th – Maserati MSG Racing fighting for the top 10 in Hyderabad E-Prixwith Edward Mortar recovered to score a point in India’s first World Championship motorcycle race in 10 years.
The Monegasque outfit displayed a positive and consistent pace throughout both practice sessions, and took advantage of the chaotic qualifying session to see both cars start inside the top eight.
Edo scored the fourth fastest time Group B to advance to the duel stage, while teammates, Maximilian Gunther, advancing to head-to-head after lap time elimination for McLaren Jake Hughes.
Upcoming Polesitter Mitch Evans beating Max to the Semi-Finals, while an extended course led to the elimination of lap times for Edo, which knocked the Swiss-Italian out of qualifying contention.

As a result, the German has dropped to 16th, but is showing a promising comeback while Edo is also starting to bounce back, now holding the 19th spot.
A Safety Car on lap 23 of 32 collected the package and provided new hope for points as the two continued to battle their way to the front, maximizing their late Attack Mode activation strategy.
Edo finished 11th in the checkered flag but was promoted to 10th after the race after a penalty for Sebastien Buemi, while Max finished 13th.
Formula E’s ninth season of competition will continue south Africa for the inaugural Cape Town E-Prix on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
james roster, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing, said, “This weekend has been positive but challenging, but we have shown a clear step forward in pace, with both drivers managing to qualify for the qualifying duel. Unfortunately luck was not on our side in the race. Max unfortunately lost too much time caught in the back of an accident between [Sam] Bird and [Mitch] Evans, and Edo did a great job getting back into the race later after crashing early in the race. Even though we have unlocked more speed, we must continue to follow our process so we can continue to find more performance.”
Edoardo Mortara recalls, “It’s been an up and down weekend from my point of view, but our performance is getting better. During one lap we were definitely faster but the race is hard to judge because I was compromised after the contact I made at the start. I lost my front wing, and the car didn’t feel very good after the repair, but somehow we managed to finish inside the top 10. It’s clear that we need to be more competitive, but with a clean weekend I know that we can be on target to finish well.”
Maximilian Günther added, “It’s really sad to leave the weekend like this. We’ve made good strides forward compared to the first two weekends of the season and have a strong run in qualifying and the race. I could start with the top five, and we are good at energy efficiency and speed. Very unlucky to lose the race when Sam [Bird] and Mitch [Evans] fell, which brought me close to the back. It’s disappointing to miss what could have been a very strong result, but it’s just part of the race. Sometimes, things don’t go your way, but at a time like this, it’s important to respond in the right way, keep moving forward, and believe in your abilities. I know our time will come.”
John Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse stated, “Hyderabad certainly took us into an unprecedented Round of Four, with strong qualifying with both Maserati until the duel, and then a race with lots of movement up and down the course, with Edo first having to make a nose change. and then Max was caught in a crash, forcing him to retire from fifth to 13th. The team kept pressing, and we ended with a point for Edo to finish 10th. We will now focus on Cape Town and take the momentum we clearly have going forward and come back stronger.
