First, a plastic SIM card, now a license plate. What’s next, LTO?

Manila, Philippines, April 26 – If you have purchased a new vehicle in the last decade, you most likely remember how long it took to receive your stamped aluminum number plate. While the wait may take several weeks or, most likely, month (others even claim years), that is guarantee that you will eventually receive your plate is guaranteed.

That may all change in the next month or so.

Hot on the heels announced a shortage of plastic SIM card last week, Land Transportation Service (LTO) dropped another shoe and warned of impending shortages number plate for new vehicles.

“Based on the LTO forecast, the number plates will run out motorcycle in June, and in July, license plates for motor vehicle will run out too,” said LTO head Atty. José Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade (below), he says. Tugade is the youngest child of the former Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Tugade Art.

“For motorcycles and four-wheelers, we are working on the contingencies we have now. One of the contingencies we have is to allow temporary dispensing of motor vehicle plates and motorcycle plates by owners. For example, That motorcycle owners, if there is no license plate number, they can make a license plate number, and the motorized vehicle will be written on the license plate file number motorbikes,” said Tugade.

Temporary plates showing file numbers will be used to temporarily identify motorized vehicles. Tugade said, if necessary, the number printed on the plate can be verified with the vehicle registration document containing the file number.

“We really have to be able to identify motorized vehicles, and that’s one of the ways we can identify motorized vehicles. Similar to new motorized vehicles – cars – where the identification is a conduction sticker. So we will apply the same concept to motorcycles if our motorcycle plates actually run out, which I hope not to,” explained the head of LTO.

Tugade, who works as a lawyer, admits that makeshift plates can be used by young people criminal, and, on the other hand, being an inconvenience for those who do not keep their vehicle registration in their vehicle – where a photocopy should be, at all times.

“This is one of the reasons why we have to really push for the procurement of these license plates. As much as possible, we must make every effort to avoid a situation where we will run out of license plates. Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to the Department of Transportation to speed up and complete the procurement of license plates,” he said.

Meanwhile, Josh Subhari (below) from Eurovision — a very popular automotive aftermarket accessories store that stocks, among other things, genuine new replica European plates (used and disabled), and Philippine temporary license plates — saw this as an opportunity to fill the looming gap with their temporary plates with file numbers.

“We at Eurovision have specialized in plates since 2010.
