Lookers has revealed that Lookers Car Hub’s standalone multi-franchise used car offering is planned to open in Middlesbrough in Q4 2023.

Duncan McPhee, COO at Lookers, told Motor Trader that the site will offer EV charging via an on-site 650KW supercharger and host an EV experience center where customers can learn about electric vehicles.

The site will also offer multi-brand service and repairs as well as onsite cosmetic repairs.

McPhee added that the venture fell under the Group’s “buy, repair refill and learn” banner.

With the site including investments in EV infrastructure and education, it is evident that EV is a big overall focus for the Group, given the ICE ban coming in 2030 which will affect new vehicles.

On this, McPhee said: “That has to be the focus. If we look at our performance last year, the BEV market share was 16.6% of the overall market and we had a 19.8% share, which is a 3.2% increase, and we’re very proud of that because of all the focus that we have. have given EV. New electric vehicle brands will be important to ensure that we capitalize on those market opportunities.”
