We are just a few weeks away from the official debut of the Lamborghini Aventador successor. The new flagship supercar will be unveiled on March 29. But before that, here’s a look at the all-new V12 hybrid powertrain.
The successor to the Aventador (code name: LB744) will be Lamborghini’s first High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) supercar. It will be based on a carbon monocoque with a 3.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack in the center, offering a range of 6.2 miles in 100% EV mode.
The internal combustion engine that powers the LB744 supercar is a new 6.5 liter V12 naturally aspirated unit. It weighs 218 kg, which is 17 kg lighter than the Aventador. It produces 814 hp @ 9250 rpm and 525 lb-ft of torque at 6750 rpm. The engine spins up to 9500 rpm and has a specific output of 126 hp per liter.
The engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is mounted across and behind the engine for the first time. The V12 drives the rear wheels, while two electric motors are mounted on the front axle. There is also a third electric motor positioned above the gearbox which can supply power to the rear wheels, depending on the selected driving mode and conditions.
As we previously reported, the combined output of the V12 hybrid powertrain is 1001 hp.
