The 2024 Kia EV9 electric SUV will be built at the automaker’s West Point, Georgia, plant starting in calendar year 2024, Kia announced Wednesday at the 2023 New York Auto Show.
The upgrade will come after the EV9 goes on sale in the US in the fourth quarter of this year, with early units likely to be sourced from South Korea. Full US launch timing and price will be revealed at a later date.

First shown in concept form at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, the three-row EV9 is the largest model to date built on the E-GMP platform shared by Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. This is the second Kia model to use the E-GMP platform, after the EV6, and it will be the first Kia electric car to be built in the US.
Kia revealed the design of the EV9, which is quite similar to last month’s concept version, other details on specs, range and charging later in the month. Highlights include 800-volt fast charging with future V2G (vehicle-to-network capability, Level 3 Pilot Driving Highway system, as well as second-row swivel seats. However, that may not be coming to the US.
2024 Be EV9
US assembly will qualify the EV9 for at least half of the $7,500 potential EV tax credit under the new rules enacted as part of the Reducing Inflation Act (IRA). While that ticks one box, Kia also has to meet battery assembly requirements and source raw materials to get the full amount.
Reports also suggest that Kia may get some production from Hyundai’s so-called Metaplant in Savannah, Georgia. But with this, that possibility might be a bit less likely. Kia’s West Point plant is well established, having assembled more than 3.8 million vehicles since 2009, according to the automaker.
