Inchcape is conducting due diligence and testing of Tekion’s cloud-based dealer management system which it plans to install across its UK dealer network.
Tekion is a newcomer to the DMS market. Founded in 2016 by Jay Vijayan, Tesla’s chief information officer for four years.
Vijayan leads the IT team that builds and enhances Tesla’s digital and information platform from the ground up.
Tekion has made waves in the US where it has attracted serious investment for customer-centric software. It now says it operates in 39 States, attracting dealer groups of varying sizes.
At the giant NADA dealer show, it was the center of attention when a US dealer group eyed the DMS disruptor.
George Ashford (pictured) CEO at Inchcape Retail told Motor Trader: “We’ve been talking to them, testing, doing our due diligence over the last year.
“We have now signed up to launch Tekion at our estate over the next three years, and we are currently in the design phase. We are very excited about what Tekion will bring,” he said.
“We’ve all been in a situation where, you know, what you think software can give you doesn’t always materialize. But so far, so good, every iteration we’ve seen gives us more confidence, not less,” he said.
Inchcape’s move will be closely watched by other dealer groups to see how the system – especially its implementation – fares. Inchcape is currently with Keyloop.
DMS allows customers to order cars with exact specifications. Dealers can use it to check real-time stock of cars and parts and offer real-time service appointments. It is said to offer an end to end customer experience.
Tekion works with all major OEMs. Investors include General Motors, BMWi and Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi.
