Toyota may opt for US EV production in Kentucky. VW keeps its own EV components so it can optimize them for efficiency. And the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is priced in the same range as the Model 3. This and more, here at Green Car Reports.
The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan has a price tag for the US, and is set for a 361-mile version that beats the Tesla Model 3 in the $46,615 range. The base version of the Ioniq 6 starts at $42,715 with a range of 240 miles. That puts the Ioniq 6’s price just below that of the Ioniq 5 crossover.
Volkswagen has traditionally looked to suppliers like Bosch for the designs of some of its core components; but VW saw huge gains in efficiency from their optimization, with “all-in-one” components rather than modules, and retained in-house expertise, the company said Tuesday. That approach, which sounds like what Tesla uses for its vehicles, could also bring about economies of scale.
Toyota is considering increasing EV production in Kentucky at its existing plants there as early as 2025, according to a report. The move could potentially take advantage of a federal EV tax credit as well as battery incentives from a new North Carolina plant.
