Honda launched the first technology that limits interference, SHUT UP. Designed by Honda with driver comfort in mind, this innovative infotainment system gets in the way the most annoying sound at the touch of a button by emitting adjustable, continuous, and progressive audio. Standard options include white noise, whale songs and elevator music in jazz or blues. Honda retainsmaximum man, minimum machine‘ design ethos when developing this technology; the principle that the space inside the vehicle should be maximized for driver.

Honda’s Ultra Quiet Sonic Hub, or HUSH, is built for drivers who crave peace and quiet on their journeys with young children, spouses, in-laws and colleagues. The driver can block out the noise made by passengers by selecting the HUSH button (above, featured photo) within the center console.

The HUSH will be launched as standard on all new Honda models ordered April 1, 2023. The HUSH can also be installed on all vehicles built after it April 2018.

HUSH features include:

  • Detection and distortion of unwanted sounds in the car – recognition of child screams as standard
  • Options for blocking noise from the passenger seat, back seat, or both (below)
  • Control over the volume of sound that reaches the driver
  • Pre-set recognition phrases such as “You’ve missed a turn”, “I’m going the other way” and “are we there yet”
  • Customization options for specific voice recognition, such as spouse, in-laws, or children

Honda has developed this new technology to filter out unwanted distractions and help desperate drivers get from point A to point B minimal stress: no driving directions or mindless shouting, just your favorite noise frequency.

Dessie Bell, Head of Sound Technology at Honda, said: “We surveyed thousands of UK drivers to understand their biggest pain points while on the road, and it all comes down to distractions from inside the car. When back seat driver is frustration number one, drivers also have to deal with crying children, dogs barking, coworkers being called – and thus the HUSH was created.

“Honda’s Ultra Quiet Sonic Hub is set to enhance the driving experience. Whether you’re traveling across the country or driving around town, HUSH lets you do it undisturbed in the car.”

This is just the beginning for HUSH, with a limited edition system already ready for 2024, starting with additional AI to make your passengers sound like you favorite celebrity.
