Top German tuner Techart will use next week’s Bangkok 2023 auto show to unveil a new line of upgrades aimed at improving the car’s track performance.
This new line was called Flyweight, and like the boxing category from which it was borrowed, it denotes lightness, agility, and speed.
Techart has demonstrated the possibilities with a new version of its flagship Porsche 911 Turbo S GT Street R which comes with a number of Flyweight upgrades.
Known as the GT Street R Flyweight, this car is limited to only 19 units and is currently available to order.
The areas of focus for engineers when developing the Flyweight version were aerodynamics, chassis and weight.
For aerodynamics, there are new features such as a carbon fiber front splitter, front fender vents, wheel arch extension and rear wing. The wings have air intakes, as well as manual adjustment with three settings, allowing the aero balance to be adjusted to suit specific race tracks.

For weight optimization, engineers added a polycarbonate rear window, a custom exhaust, and Recaro carbon fiber seats (which weigh just 10.8 pounds per shell). They also swapped the bonnet lock and rear air intake panel for lightweight quick release fasteners. The rear seats were also removed, and the rear rack replaced with carbon replacements. A roll bar and six-point harness system are also installed at the rear. According to Techart, about 132 pounds of weight is saved from the stock model with similar options.
And for the chassis, Techart added custom-tuned Öhlins coil suspension that’s adjustable for height, bounce and compression. There are also custom wishbones on the front axle which Techart says improves wheel control. The wheels are a set of Techart’s Formula VI Race Flyweight forged cut measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 at the rear. They are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

Power comes from the GT Street R’s Stage 2 powertrain. The setup is based on the twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-6 of the 911 Turbo S, but puts out 800 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque thanks to a number of upgrades including a custom turbocharger, high-flow air filter, and revised ECU tuning.
Claimed performance figures include a 0-62 mph time in 2.5 seconds, a 0-124 mph time in 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of over 217 mph.
