On the last day of February 2023, thieves got into a Don Franklin Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Somerset, Kentucky and made off with six Dodge Challenger Hellcats. A new video released reveals how they managed to get away with six performance cars in under a minute.
How the theft happened
Dealer personnel had placed four Hellcats inside the showroom while they parked the remaining two in the lot outside. The footage from one of the cameras managed to capture the three stolen vehicles. The thieves drove the cars away because the ignition key was in place. Furthermore, they also managed to get the keys to the outside car.
The robbers also took the time to put temporary plates on the car to provide legitimacy.
High-speed post-robbery chase
After about an hour, a Kentucky State trooper saw four Hell Cats speeding away. They reportedly headed north at 180 mph. The cop alerted police from another country who managed to install spike strips and disable one of the cars. Police arrested the 19-year-old driver who tried to escape on foot.
As of now, the police have recovered five of the six cars. The thieves abandoned one of the cars after running out of gas. Meanwhile, authorities found two others in Kentucky. Police found a fourth car in Tennessee along with a fifth car in Alabama. The last missing vehicle could also be in Alabama according to police.
