Ryder will be the newest customer for General Motors’ BrightDrop electric van.
The rental company on Monday announced plans to acquire 4,000 BrightDrop vans through 2025, with the first 200 units ordered this year, according to a company press release. The first vehicle will be the 2023 Zevo 600 BrightDrop model which will be delivered to charter fleets in California, Dallas-Fort Worth, and New York City later this year, followed by the 2024 Zevo 600 and Zevo 400 models arriving between this summer and early calendar year 2024 .

The BrightDrop van has an estimated range of up to 250 miles and a payload capacity of between 2,000 lbs. and 3,400 pounds. The Zevo 600 is the longer model with just over 600 cubic feet of cargo space, while the shorter Zevo 400 has about 400 cubic feet of cargo space.
GM launched the BrightDrop brand in January 2021, and revealed its first electric van just days later. At the time it was referred to as the EV600, but BrightDrop has since renamed it the Zevo 600. BrightDrop is showing a shorter van model in September 2021, originally badged EV410, and GM opened its first dealership for BrightDrop in December. that year.

Ryder plans to offer the electric truck broadly from the failed company Chanje, which appears to be importing the van from China and eventually assembling the kit in the US.
