The French Riviera is a popular vacation destination for European tourists because of its great climate, pristine beaches, coves and luxurious appeal. A playground for the wealthy, the coastal area from Saint Tropez to Menton and including Monaco plays host to several festivals throughout the year. These include the Cannes Film Festival, Cannes Yachting Festival, Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix and others.
While there are several high-end hotels around the French Riviera, nothing beats owning your own property. For those seeking estates along the picturesque riviera, a historic peach-painted villa is on the market for a guide price of €50 million.
The over 130 year old building was designed by Danish architect Hans Georg Tersling, who lived and worked in the area for most of his life. Its architectural style follows Louis Seize’s Neoclassical style and is inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Among the French and European aristocracies he designed included Eugenie de Montijo, last empress of France, and Empress of Russia.
In total, this French villa is over 7,500 square feet across four floors and is built on a hill overlooking the sea and neighboring Monaco. This property has two independent buildings and studios. The first has an entry floor dedicated to the reception and dining area, while the upper floor is where the master bedroom suite is located along with two dressing rooms, a bathroom and a terrace. Downstairs are another four en-suite bedrooms with terraces. Access to the pool and spa facilities can be achieved through the villa on the garden level. Other facilities such as a sauna, hammam, pool house with summer kitchen and wine cellar can also be found.
In a separate building, a cottage was built with two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and terrace with expansive views. Also in the beautiful Mediterranean grounds is the independent studio which covers more than one acre of land and was conceptualized by renowned landscape gardener Jean Mus.
“An extraordinary level of detail and attention is present throughout this unique residence,” said Mathias Debois-Frogé, of Savills French Riviera, in a statement. The owner’s determination to stay true to the original building is evident throughout, where traditional materials and techniques have been applied to maintain the villa’s timeless qualities.
The villa is currently listed in Savills.
