Second-hand fleet electric vehicles (EVs) take more than twice as long to sell as internal combustion engine (ICE) models.
According to new data from epyx, petrol cars and vans take an average of 10 days to sell, and diesel 11 but EV 25.
Tim Meadows, chief operating officer at epyx, said: “We believe these numbers almost certainly reflect what’s happening across the industry as a whole. It’s no secret that the EV market has been quite volatile in recent months and this has almost certainly impacted the propensity of dealers to pick up these stocks.
“However, that development must be balanced against the fact that now, approximately one in six vehicles sold on the 1link Disposal Network at any time is an EV. This represents enormous volume growth in the sector over a relatively short period of time.
“Our view is that EV sales may look sluggish compared to ICE but it must be remembered that this is still a relatively new type of used vehicle on the market. Dealers and end users are often unfamiliar with this technology and there is a lot of misinformation.
“Ultimately, the pace of their sales can be viewed as a positive and it is possible that excessive supply and demand for EVs will shift places several times before the market reaches a point of relative stabilization. The situation today can change quite quickly.”
