Engine mismanagement tops the list of claims made against used car warranties in the last eighteen months.
According to epyx, the rest of the five most common problems noted by the company are air conditioning systems, oxygen sensors, battery charging circuits, and water pumps.
The analysis uses data drawn from nearly 418,000 policies.
Tim Meadows, chief commercial officer at epyx, said: “Because we work with a wide range of warranty providers, we may be in a unique position when looking at claims made against used car warranties in the UK.
“From our perspective, the most striking finding here is that these five repairs are potentially quite expensive, typically running into the hundreds of pounds on the average vehicle and even, in some cases, into the four digits.
“While modern cars are obviously much more reliable than in the past, they have failed. The most common claim – about machine management – is a good example of this. This is a category that covers a wide range of problems but will include major mechanical failures which can be costly. Drivers who make these claims will surely be happy to have a guarantee.”
