Cadillac is committed to exclusively selling electric vehicles by the end of the decade, and will consequently only launch battery-powered vehicles from here on out.
While that means most of today’s gas-powered models will be scrapped and replaced with new nameplates that fall under Cadillac’s EV naming strategy, where model names end with “iq”, the Escalade nameplate will live on in the electric age.
Cadillac on Monday confirmed the electric Escalade will launch later this year, under the new name Escalade IQ.
It is known that Cadillac also owns a trademark under the name Escalade IQL, which will presumably be used for the long wheelbase in a similar manner to the current elongated model, the Escalade ESV.

No further details were provided, but the Escalade IQ almost certainly uses General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology, which is proven to provide industry-leading range in large and boxy vehicles such as full-size pickups and SUVs.
With a battery capacity of 200 kWh, the Ultium-based 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV has achieved an estimated EPA range of 450 miles. The 2024 GMC Hummer SUV, which is also based on Ultium, has a smaller 170-kwh battery and has a range of 314 miles.
Cadillac’s only EV on sale right now is the mid-size Lyriq SUV. The 2024 Celestiq flagship hatchback went into production at the end of the year, and Cadillac is known to be working on at least three additional EVs. These include the Escalade IQ, a compact crossover, and a mid-size SUV with a third row of seats. All three are likely to go on sale in the middle of this decade.
Not all Cadillac dealers are on board with the brand’s electric transformation. About a third of US Cadillac dealerships, or a little over 300, in 2021 are accepting offers of cash to close shop rather than spending on improving the future of EVs.
