The DVSA is asking MoT testers to complete their training by the deadline on March 31.
It says that more than half of MOT examiners have now completed their annual training and assessment.
With only 1 month left until the March 31 deadline, DVSA figures show that less than 26,000 testers still need to complete training and assessment. Last year, 1,824 were suspended for failing to do so. This compares to 4,121 suspensions in 2021.
Each year, the UK’s 65,000 MOT testers must undertake training and assessment on a specific topic to ensure they are competent and safe to carry out MOT.
Chris Price Head of MOT Policy said: “Annual training and assessments are key to maintaining the high quality of the MOT test. Last year more testers completed their training and assessments on time.
“But for peace of mind and to avoid last-minute rush, testers should record their training and scoring results well before March 31.
“We are excited about the continued improvement year over year and I would like to thank the testers for working to ensure they stay on top of their game.”
DVSA introduced annual training and assessments in 2016 as a continuous improvement program for testers.
