Edmunds pitted the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 against the Lucid Air GT. And no, this isn’t just a straight line drag race, but a series of challenges. It also includes U-drag competitions, meaning there are drag races with braking, U-turns and sprints.
Specs on paper vs reality
Coming to the numbers, the Corvette Z06 comes with a V8 motor with 670 HP. Meanwhile, Lucid Air comes with 819 HP and four-wheel drive. This might mean that Lucid is the clear winner, but wait a second. The Corvette Z06 has a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds faster than the electric car’s 3.0 seconds.
How races come about
In the first race, both cars got off to a good start. However, the Corvette has traction issues compared to the all-wheel drive Lucid. Therefore, the electric car was several inches ahead and made a few cars gap.
Now, this would have been over if it had been a conventional drag race, but after braking point the Lucid struggled with the weight while the Corvette covered the missing distance to catch up. Post the turn, Chevy managed to find a cleaner and faster exit to cross the finish line first.
In the second round, Corvette got a better start compared to the first round. Overall, the two cars compete with each other. Post braking area, the Z06 only zooms forward leaving the heavy electric Lucid in the dust.
Obviously with performance tires
After the race, the two drivers discussed car tires. It concluded that had Lucid used performance tires, the results might have been different. That, too, though, would overwhelm the track-focused Corvette Z06 a bit.
