Chinese automaker BYD has developed an active suspension system that allows the vehicle to jump through the air as well as drive safely in the event of a wheel or tire failure.
BYD said the system, dubbed DiSus, helps ensure the vehicle can remain nimble and stable in most driving conditions, not only helping to improve safety such as rollover prevention, but also helping improve comfort by reducing occupants’ body movement during high-speed or hard cornering. acceleration and braking.
BYD presented the DiSus system Monday at a technology fair in Shenzhen, and demonstrated its functionality in a pair of videos.
One video shows the U9 electric hypercar from BYD’s newly founded premium brand Yangwang bouncing around every corner before leaping into the air on all four wheels off the ground. The second video shows the U9 driving at a reasonable, controlled speed with the missing wheel.
Four versions of the DiSus system have been developed: DiSus-C (Intelligent Damping Body Control System), DiSus-A (Intelligent Air Body Control System), DiSus-P (Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System), and DiSus-X. BYD did not provide an explanation for the DiSux-X system but said it was the version demonstrated on the U9.
BYD also says that some DiSu systems rely on on-board sensors, including lidar, when calculating the required level of suspension support.
The timing of the DiSus rollout was not announced but BYD said it plans to roll out the technology gradually across its brands, starting with DiSus-P in the Yangwang U8 SUV, DiSus-A in the Denza N7 crossover, and DiSus -C in the BYD Han and Tang models, as well as several models from the brand Denza.
