Octopus Electric Vehicles, the specialist EV business of the Octopus Energy Group, will purchase 5,000 new EVs from BYD for UK customers over the next three years.
It said the company would monitor uptake, and had the potential to exceed this figure.
BYD have named Octopus EV their preferred payroll provider, with their all-inclusive packages offering drivers savings of 30% or more on the up-front cost of a car – the cheapest way to rent a BYD EV.
Initial orders will cover the BYD ATTO 3, an all-electric SUV, which debuted in the UK in March.
The ATTO 3 is the latest EV model offered by Octopus EV, which now has 85 cars available for customers.
Oliver Boots, chief commercial officer at Octopus Electric Vehicles, said: “When Octopus Electric Vehicles launched there were only a handful of EVs on the market – we are now at over 85 and that number is growing.
The Octopus Electric Vehicle sits within the broader Octopus Energy Group, which is growing rapidly after receiving $900 million in funding over the past two years, giving it a $5 billion valuation.
