Jaguar Land Rover is running the gamut over its dealer network in what is expected to be a radical reshaping of its UK business.

Motor Trader was told by a dealer source that the number of dealers could be cut from 88 to 18. The new Jaguar EV range in the future will range in price from £100,000 to £200,000. Future UK sales of Jaguar’s new EV range will be cut radically to 6,000 per year.

The potential reduction in the number of dealers is a very sensitive subject given the massive investment they have made in recent years.

JLR undertook a seismic restructuring of the network in 2016, aiming for co-ownership of the two brands in each market region with 117 Land Rover and 84 Jaguar locations reduced to 138 run by 35 partners.

Overall, JLR dealerships are investing £1 billion in UK locations with a new corporate look as part of JLR’s UK network overhaul.

JLR issued a holding statement to Motor Trader saying it wanted to build a “sustainably profitable Jaguar and Land Rover network for the future.”

It did not provide details, citing commercial sensitivities. The full statement reads:

“Jaguar Land Rover is reimagining the future of Modern Luxury by design through its iconic British brand.

“As part of our Reimagine strategy, one of our key goals is to set new benchmarks in customer service for the luxury goods sector.

“We will tailor our customer journey to our future clients, provide multiple touchpoints, deliver a cutting-edge luxury experience and create a customer-centric culture.

“Our goal is to build a stronger and sustainably profitable Jaguar and Land Rover network for the future.

“We are currently consulting with our retail partners on how we will achieve this goal but it is too early to disclose details due to its commercial nature.

“The first electric Jaguar will be launched before the end of 2024, and will be with customers in 2025. We will tell you more about Jaguar’s future before the end of this year.”
