The race for the SUV market has widened and nearly all automakers are considering offering one in their respective segments. This includes the likes of Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini and even Ferrari. So, why should Lotus be abandoned? Therefore, the team at Lotus asked the exact same questions that resulted in the creation of the Eletre. This all-electric SUV from a British company looks to offer high performance, a high seating position, and performance that can even beat supercar acceleration.
Lotus Eletre : Performance test
Carwow’s Mat Watson has just released a video of this electric SUV. The test car came with a dual-motor setup in top-of-the-line R trim. This particular configuration has a total power output of 905 HP and 726 lb-ft. torque. Watson proceeded to put the Eletre under various tests.
First, Watson checked the SUV’s 0-60 mph time. Eletre managed to record a time of 3.06 seconds. Then he crossed the 100 mph mark in 6.33 seconds and completed the 1/4 mile in 10.82 seconds. Note that this isn’t the best effort from the car as it starts off a little unsettling at the rear.
In the second lap, Lotus Eletre improved its previous timing. The 0-60 mph mark is done in 2.99 seconds with 100 mph entering in 6.28 seconds. Meanwhile, the SUV covered the quarter mile in 10.78 seconds.
Note that the Eletre is a pre-production model and not the final production version. For the last iteration of the Eletre, the company claims a time of 2.95 seconds for 0-60 mph.
Lotus Eletre : Dimensions vs performance
As with all electric cars, the Eletre also weighs quite a bit. Not to mention, our readers will be surprised to learn that this car weighs in at 4,410 pounds. Now, a sub 3 second 0-60 mph time seems pretty impressive. Furthermore, the dimensions of the car read with a length of 5,103 mm and a width of 2,231 mm with wheels measuring 23 inches.
That said with the increasing popularity of SUVs, Eletre should be able to manage decent sales which could in turn revive another project at the Lotus factory. Currently, Geely owns the British marque brand.
