Turbo-4 for all

With the end of the narrow-angle V-6 VR6, every 2024 Atlas will be powered by a new 2.0-liter turbo-4 developing 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. That keeps the updated Atlas down 7 hp but up 7 lb-ft of torque over the outgoing VR6, even though that engine isn’t standard. The new Turbo-4 gains 34 hp and 15 lb-ft of torque over the outgoing turbo-4. Volkswagen of America Senior VP Hein Schafer told Motor Authority that the updated Atlas will be half a second faster from 0-60 mph, with a 5% to 10% increase in fuel economy over the current VR6, and efficiency comparable to the less powerful turbo. At the moment. -4.

An 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive remain standard while all-wheel drive continues to be an option across the line. VW says the Atlas turbo-4 will be rated for up to 5,000 pounds.

Interior materials have been improved with a soft touch dashboard and center console trimmed in leather-like material. The top trim model will now have leather upholstered seating surfaces featuring a diamond pattern. Heated steering wheel, cooled front seats, height-adjustable front passenger seat and three-zone automatic climate control now standard across the line. Leather seats and heated seats will be available. For more storage space, the center section has been redesigned with an open space underneath with enough room to store a purse or small bag thanks to an electronic shift-by-wire gear selector of a similar design to that found on the latest GTI.

More LED lighting

The Atlas’s exterior gets a retouch with a new four-bar grille, and revised LED adaptive headlamps as standard. The headlights are framed by LED daytime running lights, a full-width LED light bar and an illuminated VW badge on all but base trim. Both the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport feature an integrated rear spoiler to extend the roofline, plus illuminated taillight bars and the VW logo in all but base trim.

The Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models will use 18- to 20-inch wheels, with the R-Design model being enlarged to 21s.

Every Atlas will come standard with active lane control, but the head-up display and adaptive cruise control will only be available in the top trims.
