The prototype for Porsche’s electric Macan has been spotted again, revealing a number of new design elements tied for the production model.
Porsche has been hinting at an electric Macan for several years and in early 2021 it finally confirmed the vehicle. It’s due in early 2024, meaning it will likely arrive as a 2024 model in the US
That’s a year later than previously estimated and means the electric Macan will arrive later than a related Audi called the Q6 E-Tron, which is expected to debut later this year. The vehicle will use the new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) modular platform developed by Porsche in partnership with Audi. The platform version will support many models across the Volkswagen Group.
The prototype for the electric Macan hints at a similar design to the clay model shown a few years ago in the book “Porsche Unseen”, with the key element being rectangular headlights similar to those found on the Taycan. We can also see a split headlamp design, as the low auxiliary lamp on the front fascia appears on the latest prototype.
According to our photographer, a small rear spoiler also extends from the tailgate at over 30 mph. Don’t be fooled by the exhaust tips: They are dummy units to hide the identity of the vehicle. The prototype for the Porsche Taycan also has one.
Porsche is relying on real-world and virtual testing to accelerate development of the all-electric Macan, particularly in the areas of aerodynamics, energy management, user interface and acoustics. The development goal was to ensure the electric Macan was the sportiest model in its segment. The key to this is a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system.

Another major advantage the electric Macan will have over most of the competition is its 800 volt electric architecture, meaning fast charge times will be possible. Using a 350 kw charging point, Porsche has hinted that 60 miles can be added in four minutes and close to 250 miles in less than 20 minutes. The automaker has also demonstrated 450-kw charging, where 60 miles can be added in just three minutes, but 450-kw charging is completely unknown in the US.
The electric Tigers will have at least one class with a 98-kwh battery pack and electric motors driving every axle. Peak output will be over 603 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque.

Production of the electric Macan will take place at Porsche’s factory in Leipzig, Germany, where current gas-powered models are built. Take note, Porsche is updating the gas-powered Macan for the 2022 model year. This is actually the crossover’s second update. The plan is to continue selling the gas-powered Macan alongside the electric new entrants as long as the electric charging infrastructure is built. Ultimately, however, only the electric version will be sold.
The entire Porsche range goes the electric route. The automaker said it expects more than 80% of its sales to be EVs by 2030, with the remainder consisting of the 911, which will be Porsche’s last remaining internal combustion engine. After the electric Macan, Porsche will launch electric versions of the 718 and Cayenne, and finally a new flagship SUV.
