Porsche unveiled a new cockpit design in the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, the brand announced on Wednesday.
Blending the analog heritage of the Porsche 911 with the digital landscape of the Porsche Taycan electric sedan, the redesigned mid-size crossover SUV features a cleaner, smarter interface that focuses on the driver, whom Porsche calls the most important person in the car.
“It’s important to play with the tension between the analog and digital worlds,” said Ivo van Hulten, director of Porsche’s Driver Experience, at a press conference. “In this new generation of driver experience, we want to bring the world together. This should not stop you from having fun driving this sports car.

Marking the biggest change, the five analog dials on the instrument cluster have been replaced with a 12.7-inch LCD digital cluster. It displays up to seven displays, with available features such as navigation or night vision projected in the foreground, an Assist display which shows various driver assistance features in use, and a Pure screen which displays only the speedometer and turns off the head-up display to “drive on the Autobahn”. ,” says Porsche.
There will also be a Signature display which is a digital recreation of the five dials featured on the current Porsche Cayenne, plus a three-dial throwback display featuring the speedometer in the center, tachometer on the left, and an adjustable display on the right. .
Porsche doesn’t take cluster digitization lightly.
“It was a pretty intense discussion within the company,” van Hulten said in an interview, referring to the legacy of the 911. “At some point, we realized this gave us a lot more flexibility going forward. After the Taycan, it freed us up a bit. Then we decided to move forward with a digital approach.”
The digital approach influences the entire cockpit design. The hood protecting the cluster from glare has been leveled. Porsche adopted an anti-glare filter from the Taycan that works like polarized sunglasses to eliminate reflections in the new Cayenne.
The start button is still to the left of the redesigned steering wheel, and a wheel-mounted drive mode selector is standard, but Porsche migrated the gear selector from the center console to the dashboard on the right side of the steering wheel. It’s small and compact, and opens the console to climate control switches, heated seat buttons, sealed storage pockets and a volume dial. It’s a cleaner and less cluttered interface.
“We know in the US physical control, climate control, is very important,” said van Hulten.

The grip handles on either side of the center console remain, and a revised 12.3-inch touchscreen with larger icons sits in the center of the dashboard. Passengers are also not ignored. An optional 10.9-inch touchscreen engages the front passenger with most of the redundant features of the center touchscreen, though streaming is an option.
A wireless smartphone charger with integrated cooling comes standard, as do two USB-C ports on the storage console and two more on the back of the console. Pairing a smartphone requires scanning a QR code displayed on the touch screen.
Unlike the Mercedes-Benz Hyperscreen, Porsche’s triple screen fits into the current horizontal dashboard layout, flanked by wings with vertical vents. All vents are grilleless, which is a first for the brand. Digitization doesn’t overwhelm or dominate the dashboard; on the contrary, it suits him.
Atop the dashboard, dominating the Cayenne’s interior like the Eye of Sauron, is the Sport Chrono analogue clock.
