Mercedes-Benz has trimmed back its coupe and convertible offerings in recent years, and the process will extend to the two-door C-Class and E-Class models which will soon be replaced by a new model presumed to be called the CLE Class.

Our latest spy photos show a CLE-Class Cabriolet prototype, in sporty AMG guise. We also saw prototypes for the regular CLE-Class Cabriolet, CLE-Class coupe, AMG CLE 43 Cabriolet, and AMG CLE 63 SE Performance coupe.

The latest prototype is likely to be the CLE 63 SE Performance Cabriolet. We know this is for AMG which is at the top of the range because of its square exhaust tip. The smaller AMG models use rounded tips. Other AMG cues include a large wheel and brake combo, a large air opening up front, and lowered suspension.

Under the hood should be the same turbo-4 based plug-in hybrid powertrain featured on the recently unveiled C 63 SE 2024 Performance sedan. The Turbo-4 is an upgraded version of the 2.0-liter engine found in current AMG compact cars. Thanks to the addition of an electric assisted turbocharger, the output from the engine is boosted to 469 hp. It also has an electric motor that integrates with the engine in a mild hybrid configuration to drive additional features, as well as function as a starter motor.

On top of this, there’s a much more powerful (up to 201 hp) motor on the rear axle, meaning the combined output can be boosted up to 671 hp for short stints. This rear motor is mated to its own 2-speed transmission. A 6.1-kwh battery ensures small electric range is possible.

For the CLE 43 tamer class, it’s unclear what powertrain is planned but a good bet is the same setup introduced on the 2023 C 43 sedan. The setup consists of a 2.0-liter turbo-4 producing 402 hp alone, plus a mild hybrid system capable of delivering temporary 14-hp boost.

Look for the regular CLE-Class which will debut later this year in coupe and convertible body styles. The AMG version should follow the regular six months to one year model.
