The Jeep Wrangler enters the 2024 model year with a series of updates that add capability and value to the popular off-roader.
The big news is the new Sport S 4xe class, which Jeep says will lower the price of the Wrangler’s plug-in hybrid 4xe option. Pricing hasn’t been announced but the current entry-level Wrangler 4xe, the Wrangler Willys 4xe, starts at $55,590, including destination.
Also new for 2024 is the Rubicon X class which builds on the Rubicon by adding standard 35-inch tires, an integrated off-road camera and steel bumpers. It’s only available with the Wrangler’s 2.0-liter turbo-4 and 3.6-liter V-6 powertrain options.
Other classes in the 2024 Wrangler lineup include Sport, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, and the current V-8-powered Rubicon 392.

In terms of capability, the 2024 Wrangler benefits for the first time with a full-float Dana rear axle across several grades. This allows owners to easily increase tire sizes, according to Jeep. Also new for 2024, depending on class, are a 100:1 crawl ratio, a factory Warn winch with an 8,000 pound capacity, and an increased 5,000 pound capacity towing.
There are also tweaks to the vehicle’s interior and exterior. The iconic seven-slot grille has been slightly revised, 10 new wheel designs have been added, and the antenna is integrated with the windscreen. Inside, there are powerful front seats, as well as a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as side curtain airbags for the first and second row all as standard. Forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control with stop and go also come standard on most grades.

The Power Box for plug-in hybrid is also new. It featured four 120-volt outlets for a total of 30 amps of output, which proved ideal on the trail. For trail enthusiasts, Jeep offers a Trails Offroad feature that provides details about some of the trails in the infotainment system.
Powertrains are unchanged from the previous year. The plug-in hybrid option consists of a 2.0-liter turbo-4 and a pair of electric motors that produce a peak power of 375 hp. The electric motor is powerful enough to move the vehicle in four-wheel drive mode without engine assistance, in which case an electric range of up to 22 miles is possible, thanks to the 17.3-kwh battery.

The 2024 Wrangler’s basic powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbo-4, rated at 270 hp. A 3.6-liter V-6 is available rated at 285 hp, and for the power hungry there’s a 6.4-liter V-8. The V-8 was limited to the Rubicon 392 class, and was rated at 470 hp.
Transmissions include a choice of 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic, although plug-in hybrids and V-8s can only be equipped with an automatic transmission.
Jeep introduced its updated Wrangler range Wednesday at the 2023 New York auto show, where the automaker confirmed that order books are now open and deliveries are scheduled to begin later this year. Pricing information will be announced closer to the market launch.
