Ford is planning a mid-cycle facelift for the F-150 to be introduced for the 2024 model year. Judging by our latest spy shots, the pickup truck’s Expedition SUV partner will also be undergoing surgery.

The spy shot shows a highly stealthy Expedition prototype with details suggesting Ford is planning a rock-solid Expedition Tremor class with this update.

Ford is adding the Timberline class to the Expedition lineup for 2022, with off-road features like steel skid plates, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain tires and unique chassis mods including 0.9 inches of extra ground clearance.

However, the prototype shown here uses the more serious 33-inch General Grabber All-Terrain tires, the same tires used on the F-150 Tremor. The design of the 18-inch alloy wheels on the prototype is the same as that found on the F-150 off-roader.

It’s unclear what updates are planned, but it appears the Expedition will receive a revised headlamp design.

There are rumors that Ford may also add the hybrid powertrain that the F-150 will receive with the 2021 redesign. The setup pairs the turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 with an electric motor integrated with the standard 10-speed automatic transmission. This is good for 430 hp.

Currently, the Expedition is offered only with a turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine that develops 380 hp as standard or 400 hp in the pricey Platinum class.

The current Expedition arrived in 2017 as the 2018 model, and was given an earlier update for 2022. Like the upcoming F-150, the updated Expedition should be introduced for the 2024 model year. This means a debut could happen before the year is out. Stay tuned.
