The BMW M2 is one of the newest M cars on the block. The 2023 version has now been dyno tested by IND Distribution. Surprisingly, the results show that BMW has underestimated the car’s performance figures.

BMW has equipped the M2 with a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged inline-six. This engine is rated by BMW to develop 453 HP and a maximum torque of 406 lb-ft. This bike has been improved compared to the outgoing M2 Competition. Speaking of numbers, the new car develops 48 HP more than the old car. And, in particular, 8 horses more than even the most powerful M2 CS.

As seen in the video, the dyno results are better than the numbers claimed by BMW. Test results show that the 2023 BMW M2 produces 465 HP of power and 412 lb-ft of peak torque. This is about 12 HP and 6 lb-ft more than the numbers in the brochure.

The difference between the two numbers isn’t as dramatic as it seems in the case of the M4 CSL. That said, one has to wonder why there was such a difference in the first place. Is BMW trying to deliberately keep the numbers low?

BMW M2 2023: Price & Performance

Overall, the 2023 BMW M2 is not a cheap car. This will refund the buyer US$63,195, including the destination fee. In terms of weight, the M2 weighs in at 3,867 lbs. Compared to the much larger M4, it’s only 112 pounds lighter and more than 200 pounds heavier than the previous M2. The saving grace, however, is the 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. Not to mention, the M2 also comes with a very sweet exhaust.
